i can't fall asleep because this stupid cold makes me achey and my nose keeps running and my throat hurts and theres a lot of pain from the skin on my nose from wipeing it so many times

A couple of things come to mind!.
There's a squeeze-bottle [that's available in the Vaporizer aisle of the drug store] with a nozzle that fits snuggly against your nostril!. It's a nasal rinse!.
You pour a pre-measured packet of salt and baking soda into the bottle, add some warm, filtered water, shake the bottle for a few seconds, lean your head over a sink, and squirt half the warm solution up one nostril, and then squirt the other half of the bottle up the other nostril!.
Some water will come out the other nostril, some will come out your mouth!. I never had any go down my throat!.
I don't have an overactive gag reflex, but sometimes I cough just a little while doing this!. But otherwise, the solution is soothing, certainly NOT irritating!.
The nasal rinse helps to loosen and wash away any nasal discharge that could be irritating the back of your throat!. With the perfectly measured salinity and comfortably warm water, there is no burning or discomfort!. There will be some relief around the sore sinuses as post-nasal drip is temporarily washed away!.
I recall they recommend doing this no more than twice a day!. My kit was manufactured by Ayr, the bottle is 6 oz!., and included a bunch of
