Iit really depends on what is keeping you awake!. If it's outside noises the white noise (humidifier, fan going, there are also white noise machines) works quite well as it drowns other sounds out!.
A lot of people also really like sound machines (they play special calming sounds that can drown out other noises also)!.

If it's because your mind is racing, you have too many thoughst, etc then you need to calm your mind!. What works for me is the following exercise:
Lay in the position that you feel most comfortable sleeping in, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths while trying to empty your mind (think of nothing), then concentrate on your feet while inhaing through your nose exhaling through your mouth!. Do this once or twice and then move onto your ankles, legs, knees, thighs, hips, belly, etc UsuallyI drift off to sleep during the exercise but other times I make it all the way to my head and I'm still awake!. No matter though you'll still have calmed down enough to be able to sleep soon!. The trick is to not start thinking once you are done!. For some people physically tiring themselves out helps too as often if your body is tired your mind also stops!.

Another posibility is that you have too much physical energy to be able to fall asleep easily!. Often tiring yourself out during the day works with that one!. Sports, walks outside, lots of fresh air and all general exercise should help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends, naturally, there are three types of noise that help people sleep!.

Oddly one is Loud or noticeable music, that drowns all else out!.

Two is white noise, like a fan or humming of a mini fridge or something similar!.

Three is complete silence, this is the hard one, you either are gonna need earplugs or certain drugs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do not nap during the day, don't eat or smoke a couple hours before bed, and go on an imaginary ride with some fantasy story, not too exciting though!. Don't think about stressful things, make sure everything you need for the next day is organized and ready, make sure it's dark and quiet, and always pee just before bed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Natural remedies include warm milk, melatonin, valerian, 5-HTP and others that you can find in a web search for "natural sleep remedies"!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i take a motrin about an hour before i go to sleep, that helps me a lot!. but if its a constant thing, see a doc for help :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
