Does sugar really help headaches?!

Question: Does sugar really help headaches!?
I've heard it alot before---
does sugar help headaches, as long in small doses!?
I always eat candy with a SMALL headache, and it seems to help!. Is it really the sugar!?

Oh, and one more thing, what is the best medicine for a migraine!. Me and my son (who is 11) get migraines, and I want something he and I can take!. Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Sugar does not help headaches!. The caffiene in some candies does help headaches!. Caffiene causes your blood vessels to dilate which decreases the pressure and reduces the headache!. Your son needs to take a different medication than you do due to his age!. And I would not suggest Excedrine Migrane for an 11 yr old as it has a large amount of caffiene in it!. You can drink a soda with caffiene, it may help!. Your doctor can prescribe a medication that is both safe for you and him and effective for migraines!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In the end sugar only makes it worse!. You may get a rush of serotonin in your brain when you eat candy, but it is only briefly masking the pain of the headache!. Often people are so addicted to sugar that not having a continual flow with CAUSE headaches, that don't end until you get more!. In the end you will be happier, and have less migraines (I know this personally), if you drastically reduce your intake of refined carbohydrates like table sugar, corn syrup, and white flour!. Medications like Valium and naprosyn helped me somewhat, but they came with side effects!. Cutting down on sugar has side effects, but all of them are good ones!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not sure if sugar is clinically considered to help a headache, but it does help me!. Also, caffeine helps small headaches too so I've always eaten a small amount of chocolate with one and it helps!.

For a migraine, I like Excedrin Migraine and I think your son can take it too, as long as you just call your doctor's office and make sure!. Most medications like that aren't approved for children younger than 12!. I wouldn't suggest any NSAID type meds as they can cause ulcers and gastro upset and bleeding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My guess would be that sugar helps headaches caused by low blood sugar!. Seems logical to me, but I'm no doctor!. Just my best guess!.

Sorry, I don't know anything about migraines!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
