#1 in the triangle means the bottle is made of polyethylene terephthalate!.
#2 in the triangle means the bottle is made of high-density polyethylene!.
#3 in the triangle means polyvinyl chloride!.
#4 is Low-density polyethylene, which is usually plastic bags!.
#5 is Polypropylene, which usually holds dairy products!.
#6 is Polystyrene, or good old styrofoam!.
#7 is "Other"!. This can be several of the other types mixed together!.

Depends what you are using it for!. But in general I would recommend keeping away from plastic bottles where ever possible!.
Instead stick to stainless steel and glass!. They are the safest options regarding toxicity!. However, glass does break so keep that in mind as well!.

some plastics release pseudoestrogens when exposed to heat, and those can cause male and female breast cancer!.
