I am thinking of trying a lower carb lifestyle. Is it really healthy?!

Question: I am thinking of trying a lower carb lifestyle!. Is it really healthy!?
have been trying to eat better and get in shape!. I have recently been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and my doctor said that a low carb diet would be helpful!. But I'm having a hard time thinking that all of the fat you consume with low carb diets is really healthy!. Has anyone had success with low carb!? And did you experience anything negative with it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The key is to still allow yourself some carbs!! All the low carb diets are different!. The Atkins diet is very extreme, and though people may loose weight off of it (and you may too), it's probably not the best for your health!. South Beach Diet is a little less strict, but the first 2 weeks you can't have barely any carbs, and they don't let you have any breads or grains!. The part I don't find healthy in that first part of their diet is that you also can't have ANY fruit! After all these studies showing about the nutrients and antioxidants found in fruit I personally don't think it's healthy to restrict them completely from your diet for any length of time!.

A lower carb diet/lifestyle may be good for you, but before you try it, it's probably best to talk to another doctor (for more advice), or best, a nutritionist!. For the service they provide (letting you live a longer healthier life!) the cost is worth it!. They will also guide you of what foods to eat or avoid!. They will give you tips and recipes!. They can help you set out what you are going to eat each day in the beginning, to make sure you are doing it right!.

To have SOME fat is good for your body, the key is not to have excess!. Plus fats and protiens take longer to digest so in turn, you feel fuller longer!

Before you get caught up into any sort of diet, realize the bottom line to loosing weight and being fit!. To lose weight you must burn more calories than you eat!. So exercise, staying away from very fattening foods (fried things, some desserts), and eating everything in moderation (it's OK to have some "bad" food everyonce in a while, just not every day) is the "weigh" (haha sorry that was a bad joke) to go!

Honestly, I am not familiar with polycystic ovarian syndrome, so make sure you talk to your doctors or nutritionist to make sure you are following the diet correctly and healthfully!.

Good luck!

here is an article you may find interesting titled "Are Low Carb Diets Dangerous" http://www!.everydayhealth!.com/publicsite!.!.!.

Also, be careful about what type of artificial sweeteners you eat during a low carb diet!. We all know sugar is safe (in moderation) because that's what people ate up until recently!. Based on the most recent research (it is always changing), sucralose (Splenda) is the safest artificial sweetener!. They have found no health issues with it yet, but I would not only eat things with sucralose, personally, because it is a chemical compound made from chlorine! It's a fairly new sweetener, so nobody is quite sure on the long term affects!. Other artificial sweeteners such as aspertame (wayyyy cheeper than sucralose but has ties with cancer), nutrasweet and others are not healthy and may increase your chance of cancer and other health issues, so read the label!!

Everything in moderation, exercise, and as natural as you can be will make you feel fitter, healthier, and even happier!.

Best of luck sweetheart!!

EDIT: whole grains are OK for you! It's really the refined stuff you should worry about!. Eat complex carbs, not too much fat, low sodium, and lots of protein! Also, beware, don't go on a NO or too low carb diet because you will feel veryyy tired!.

Remember, it's not healthy to lose more than 1 pound per week!. Plus, people who do usually just gain it all back (which starts them yo-yoing their weight, VERY unhealthy)!. Those advertisements that say "lose 10 pounds in 7 days" are VERY unhealthy, plus most of the weight they lose is water weight!. You could also lose muscle if you drop weight to quickly!. A general rule of thumb is that if you eat 500 calories less than your recommended amount per day, than you will lose 1 pound per week!.
Many people want to lose weight fast, but think about, 1 pound per week means 52 pounds in one year!! That's pretty fast! And it's worth it to take it slow so you don't yo-yo your weight!

here is a great calorie counting website (if counting your calories is right for you):
http://www!.thedailyplate!.com/
plus, it's free!

If you try calorie counting for a week or two, you will quickly learn correct portions!. I did it (and still do it periodically to make sure I am eating correctly) for an entire week straight and was amazed of how much sodium I was unintentionally eating! I eat pretty healthy and skinny, but sodium was coming from foods that I didn't realize!. What a wake up call!Www@Answer-Health@Com

listen the low carb diet is the best thing you can do for yourself!. that does not mean you cannot have carbs but if you cut out alot of them your energy level, emotional health, happiness, etc will all skyrocket!. I am telling you!. Everyone that I know lately that has followed that advice and changed to low carb feels the affects instantly!. Remember you will still be getting carbs in salad dressings and in green beans etc!. so it's not like you are cutting them completely!. And when you do decide to eat that donut after low carbing you will feel like crap which should let you know how unhealthy carbs are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A good low carb diet is one that eliminates processed and refined carbs such as bread, chips, cookies, pasta, etc!., and instead uses complex carbs such as fresh fruits and veggies!.
Don't consume fat, eat high protein lean meat -- fish and skinless chicken!.
If your doctor has prescribed a low carb diet, she/he should have given you the basics of such a diet!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Low carb diet will be good for you!. You will ALWAYS stay slim!. But do not deprive yourself completely!. Your body needs a little carbs!.

My husband lost 60 pounds on the Atkins diet which means no carbs!. It was temporary thing for him!. He likes sweets as much as I do!. LOL But now he is doing fine with little carbs consumption!.

If you are light on carbs I don't think it will be harmful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well, it is healthy to a certain extent, however, foods with a high carb content do release energy more efficient and last longer in the body, hence, making you not so hungry for a while!. You could just try cutting the carbs down a small amount for the moment!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

carbs are fats so try to stay away from most fatning foods! you can have most foods but you just have to limit the amount of food you intake!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, LOW carb works great!.!.!.just don't do NO carb!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
