Gave blood once a few years ago...?!

Question: Gave blood once a few years ago!.!.!.!?
I nearly fainted, was shaky, could not drive back to work!. Felt that way for the whole rest of the day!. That was the first time I had ever given blood!.
Now united blood services calls me at least once a month to donate and I have to tell them no, it made me so ill the one time!.
Anyone else ever have this!?
I have asked them to stop calling me, but they continue to call!.
Also, had 2 coworkers donate with me same day, they haven't donated since, they NEVER get called!. What's up!?
I am b+, I don't think that is all that rare!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, B positive is somewhat rare, so that could be the start of it!. Your co-workers were probably O positive and well, they have plenty of that!. Great thing about O positive is that it can replace most any blood loss temporarily due to it's lack of antibodies!.
Anyway, your response to blood letting is a rather normal happening!. Are you a smoker!? In good health or poor health!? Are you small!?
More than likely, it has to do with a "Vasovagal reaction!." There is a large nerve, I believe it is cranial nerve IV, that runs from the base of your brain to the big toe in your left foot!. This nerve controls heart contraction, blood pressure, breathing, swallowing, and many other actions!. When this nerve is triggered it can slow or stop your heart rate, drop your blood pressure and cause an overall depressed reaction from your body!. We actually use this in the medical field to break exceedingly fast heart rates called supraventricular tachycardias!. I have seen it personally on ECGs, when someone is stuck with an IV they will actually "vagal out", as their rhythm will temporarily go flat line!. It is not nescissarily unhealthy, as patients that have a history of the supraventricular tachycardias are taught to "vagal" themselves by their doctors!.
However, one theory also thinks that it is similar to the sight of blood!. Since we are animals, we do have natural reactions!. One such could be the sight of blood causing an autonomic reaction to "play dead"!. Well, what better way to play dead than to actually drop your vital signs to a point near death!? You become pale, sweaty, cold, and faint!. This could also be it, but I like the vagal reaction, myself!.
Hope that helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ditto just last week but I don't think it will stop me from donating again!. I know the symptoms and when I started getting hot, they laid me back on the chair and gave me an ice pack!. I drank some juice and took it easy the rest of the day!.

Just think about the situation people are in that need blood - a little discomfort on my part is not so bad!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

OMG, same thing happened to me a couple of years ago in high school my school sponsored a blood drive for the american cross and i thought well i've never given blood before but hey it gets me out of class and could save someone's life!.!.!.!.bad idea they gave me juice and crackers and all that which is supposed to help but i barely lasted 10 minutes i felt sweaty nauseous couldnt keep my eyes open etc it was horrible which they say can often happen when your a first time donor maybe you checked off something saying they could contact you and they didnt!? buy yeah i 've never donated since and dont think i ever will!!! Sounds gross don't it, at least you won't die from it, If you put somebody else's blood in you, you eat everything they ever did in life, If it was yours OK but Mine Yuck, Blood is a big business with free product for sale at $2000!.00 a liter, ofcource they want you to donate!. look at the money they make, and don't believe they do over 100 tests for diseases, they do batch test, one in every 50 bags I could be off, but it is a game of Russian roulette!. There are many Very wonderful ways to deal with blood, and they are not barbaric either!. Check out noblood!.org no this isn't one of Jehovahs Witnesses site, but you can learn allot from them too!. it's your life, don't give it away and leave your loved ones with the bill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
