Answers:
They test to see if you are a match with a blood sample!. Its called HLA tissue typing!.

If you donate, there are two ways, and the doc will make the decison!.

If you donate actual marrow, you will be under general anesthesia!. In some cases they will use an epidural, but that is usually when the donor does not want general!.

However, most of the time today they use peripheral blood stem cells!. They get the cells using a aphersis machine, the same thing as at the plasma center and some red cross donations!. Its no big deal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They'll do a blood test to see if you are compatible, and if you are, then they will remove some of your bone marrow and donate it!. It is extremely painful!. I had a bone marrow aspiration myself done and it was really traumatic emotionally for me, and my hip hurt for days!. But you would be doing something really wonderful for the person who needs your marrow, and they will have a better chance of living b/c of it!. And your bone marrow will regenerate itself so you will be fine in the long run!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
