JuicyGirl was right on about some of the techniques that you can use!. If it is severe like mine is and it is a continual thing, I do agree that you should go to a doctor for some assistance, they have some good things out now that you can take to help you!. That is the route I have to go because if I just lay in the dark, even if my hubby is right next to me (he usually falls asleep the minute his head hits the pillow), my head spins with all kinds of thoughts: what happened in the day, what shall I wear tomorrow, what to do with my child who was naughty today, what is the next purchase I want to make at Tiffany's, how is my life going, what are my stresses, oh gosh, by then the point of no return begins!. So if you don't want to get any medication, some people do not, there are lots of things you can do!. I was told by my own physician to cut caffeine by noon, or just cut it altogether, which I have done, like with coffee, I do decaf in the am even though it does have a little bit of caffeine in it!. But after noon, like if I have a soda, I get root beer or Sprite (watch the sugar though), if I have any chocolate (another source of caffeine, yet something I crave often) I just have a little in moderation!. But there are foods, too, that can help with sleep, you can have a little turkey sandwich or milk, warm or cold, either way, both of those things have a natural "drug" called tryptophan in them and it can naturally aid you to sleep!. Also, a little peanut butter sandwich can help, they have found peanut butter also has tryptophan in it that can aid in falling asleep!. Just make sure to have a light, healthy snack in moderation so that you gain weight eating later on in the evening!. Don't hang out in your bedroom all day, your body needs to know that the bedroom is where you sleep, and it will make that correlation if you are not spending too much time in there!. Also do NOT work out or anything at least 90 minutes before you want to go to bed, it releases endorphins which can keep you awake longer!. Try a hot bubble bath with lavender suds or a few drops of lavender oil and then slather your bod with some lavender lotion afterwords!. If you want to take an over the counter medication to aid in getting to sleep, Wal-Mart has some great stuff called SleepMD and I actually give it to my 16 year old daughter because she inherited mama's bad sleeping habits unfortunately and I don't want her on a prescribed medication at this age anyway!. Chamomile tea helps for a lot of people too, it's a good relaxer!. Read a book, then when you feel tired put the book up and try to close your eyes, if you don't fall asleep within 15 to 20 minutes, do not stay in the bedroom, go to the living room and do a crossword, or something that you are interested in that relaxes you and then try again, if you can't sleep leave the room again, until you get tired!. It may also take a couple nights where if you are not asleep by a certain time at night, just keep yourself awake (this is a hard one, but it can work) and do not nap the next day or anything and go to bed when it's dark and you will sleep very well!. There are just so many things that you can do, and I have done them all plus many other things until I found a medicine that helps and that's okay too if you have to do that, there is no embarrassment, sleep is very detrimental to leading a healthy and happy life!. Good luck, sorry for the long note, but I have been struggling since I was a child and I am now 37 years old and have done all the above things, and I know how frustrating it can be to not be able to fall asleep!. You'll find something that will help, just keep trying!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi! If it's severe, you may have a sleeping disorder and need to talk to your doctor!. There are other things you can do in the meantime!. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time!. Even on the weekends!. Avoid naps longer than 20 min during the day!. Cut out caffiene by 3 pm!. Don't work out before bed or do any heavy activity!. Find something to wind down!. Maybe read for a bit!. Don't watch tv or go on the computer, as this stimulates your mind!. Eat a little healthy snack before bed!. Make sure you only use your bed for sleeping!. I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
