I have a small OCD issue. HELP?!

Question: I have a small OCD issue!. HELP!?
I am in the 8th grd!. at a private school in Melbourne Australia!. I love it and have friends!.!.!.

At my primary school though I had a tough time fitting in!. This was because I'd first off attended an International School in Tokyo Japan before I came back to Australia in 1999!. I'd picked up an American accent there!. I was a foreign kid like mostly everyone else there, however literally everybody spoke with an American accent!

At my primary school in Australia, I picked up little mannerisms, due to nervousness!. Like uncontrolable blinking, straightening my hair, etc!. Also, I'd left behind all my friends in Tokyo, so it was tough!. It's never really ceased!.!.!. up until this day! I have developed an obsession of picking things up and down, opening and closing doors repeatedly, etc!

I'm a perfectionist too, however I don't think that has much to do with it!. I do most things repeatedly!
My mum thinks I should see someone, however I think I can control it, as I sometimes can!.

Help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I believe that the need to do things repeatedly in OCD comes from the need to do it right or thoroughly!. Usually when someone does it for luck, then it isn't OCD!. I have also seen it done to maintain routine and that is part of OCD as well!.

If you have OCD, it can often be treated with medication but you will need to have an MD (psychiatrist - NOT psychologist) diagnose and prescribe meds!.

Do you do the repeated actions when you are particularly nervous or stressed!? I know someone with OCD and he washes his hair 5 times in the show and brushes his teeth 3 times each day!. He works out for 6 hours in order to get the sets just right!.

It all has to do with the need for perfection and control!. Please don't look down on yourself because you don't have a choice about feeling these things if you do have OCD!. You will just have to learn to control those impulses!. You can do it! I can tell from your writing that you are courageous (the school and culture changes) and intelligent!. Go see someone and listen to what they say!. It won't hurt to be informed!. If you don't like the side effects of the medicines, then you can always stop taking them!.

God's best to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, shes right, you should see someone!.

They would need a thorough analysis of you!.

You shouldnt take advice for this from a random person online!.

Ive seen a tv show about this though, and they went to specialists and phyciastrists (cant spell), and they all got the help that they needed!.

Im sure you can do the same!.

Some people have it alot worse than you!.

Everything will be fine, just talk to your mom about it!.

She has the right idea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are medications that would help you a lot in your struggle!. Very few side effects!. It's been going on so long that you really should see a doctor and get on a med!. You'll be glad you did!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am not an expert, so I hope I don't make it worse, but it DOES sound to me that you are conscientiously aware that you do these things!. I'm sorry that it's probably because of nervousness and all the moving!. BUT, maybe try something like self-hypnosis which can teach yourself a certain "safety catch" as in, when you close a door, you take a deep breath and relax instead of opening and closing it again!? (you pick something up and take a deep, relaxing breath or two instead of putting it down and picking it back up) etc!. I think that perhaps, you're already training yourself to repeat these actions!. When I was younger, I'd started to slip into unexplicable panic attacks, out of nothing and for no apparent reason!. I bought a book on self-hypnosis that I could relate to and wrap my head around (there are tons out there-too many were too technical) I tried the technique and it worked, completely and easily!. When I'd start to panic, I'd take 3 breaths, do deep breathing for a few seconds, and I'd feel a million times better!. I only had to use the technique conscientously for a few weeks maybe and the episodes passed and I never had a problem with it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, the blinking sounds more like Tourette's, and often Tourette's and OCD are together in pairs, it's called comorbid!. A weird word, I know, but just what it is called!. If you are a boy, Tourette's is more common in boys!. Tourette's can get worse around puberty, also!. My son has it and it started before first grade--shoulder shrugging, eye blinking, arm stretching, head rolling, knuckle cracking, it can be any number of things--go to a TSA website, stands for Tourette Syndrome Association and read up on it!. Oh, and if you have ever heard of this, don't instantly think you are going to start blurting out swear words, that is a rare and over publicized aspect of Tourette's!. My son had a verbal "tic" as these things are called, but his was saying he loved me multiple times in a day!.!.!.good luck to you--I'm not saying this is what you have, the docs won't usually diagnose you with Tourette's unless your tics have been observed to last over one year--not the same ones the whole time--just tics in general-and not non stop either, as my sons come and go and change often as to what type he has, right now he claps his hands and blinks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Seeing someone could really help :) If you don't like it, tell your mom and have her pull you out of the program!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
