i used to have this problem!.!.!. I used to be sleepless for days, eventually getting so weak, i fainted and fell from the top of the stairs!.!. ouch yes!.!. Why cant you sleep!? is it a problem bugging you!? Have a bug book, and list down everything that is bugging you before you go to bed!. your brain kinda forgets them becuse it knows that they r safe in a book!.!.!. dont watc tv before bed!.!. it kinda activates your brains!.!.!.!. something like that!. I always excercise before I go to bed!. Long jogs!. I come back home so tired my bf has to carry me to bed because i fall asleep on the couch!. Do not use the bed for anything else except sleep, and s*x of course!. the brain will program itself to forget that the bed is for sleep if you do everything in bed!. No loud music before sleep, try to listen to sounds of nature!.!.!. i have in my ipod a list of sounds of nature, especially rain to get me to sleep!. drink milk and maybe a cookie or sndwich!. dont worry it wont get you fat!. Don't try to sleep for too long, say more than 25 minutes!. After that, get up and do something low-key, like read, pay bills, organize fridge, watch something boring on tv, but not too boring so that you become anxious!.
Then, hopefully, your body will tell you to sleep and you can try again!. The worst thing is to just stay in bed for hours; it doesn't help anything!.
Also, sometimes big meals right before bed make you sleepy but sometimes it's the opposite!. Give it a try if want and if this lasts too long ( week or more,) talk to a doctor about it!.
And before you jump to a sleeping pill, try a milder pill like a pain reliever w/drowsy effects!. Tylenol-pm works really well for me!.

I can't sleep now either, just woken up!. Living in the Uk ;)
but just had a scary knightmare, thats why

Try to relax, stay off the internet, go for a walk during the day, do things to tire you out during the day, this will make it easier for you to sleep!. If not then put some Big brother live on the telly, while they sleep you can too, and its very relaxing, also!.!. put some sigur ross in the cd player, you'll be suprized how cooing there are :)
