Answers:
It had to do with the war on drugs started in the 50s-60s when no information about the drug was available and mostly Mexicans and blacks used it!. It was looked down upon and associated with criminal minorities!. Now in the present day we are left with the repercussions of that campaign!. Now its hard to get laws passed to reverse the criminalization of marijuana because any politician that makes it a point to fix it, is attacked by opposing sides as them being irresponsible or not seeing the "real" issues!. It makes it nearly impossible to fix these clearly backwards laws!. When you have 40% or more that uses MJ on a regular basis or has in the past!. It is ridiculous!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a long political history behind why those are legal and marijuana isn't!. Until the late 1950's(I think), doctors were still required to pay a tax on the dispensing of marijuana, morphine, opium and a few other things!.!.!.!.!.until the FDA decided to step in and classify drugs as to their usefulness, medically!. Class one drugs, like most of the recreationals, are considered dangerous drugs and are not for legal sale!. Class 2 are narcotics, with restrictions on how they may be prescribed!. That included morphine, dilaudid, methadone, etc!. Class 3 drugs include some narcotics that are not as likely to be addictive, such as Tylenol # 3!.

The Tobacco lobby had huge money and influence over politicians for a very long time- and still do, despite the lawsuits against them for cigaretts causing many illnesses and deaths!.
Alcohol was prohibited in the 1930's!. That in turn gave rise to Organized Crime, bringing in alcohol and making huge profits, so they could branch out into other lucrative crimes!.
Once alcohol prohibition was repealed, OC went into other things, like drugs!.
So the basic reasons are political, not reasonable!.
They are indeed all drugs!. Some drugs ought not be easily available, such as acid or extasy or PCP, which can have terrible consequenses for those who take them!.
Marijuana isn't very good for the lungs, some say it's worse than tobacco!.
Morally, this country accepts that there are two legalized drugs- tobacco and alcohol!. The attempts to stop people from drinking was a major legal misstep!.
The costs of those two legal drugs, every year, in terms of lives ruined and health issues, are in the billions!.
Sad, huh!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

alcohol and tobacco are called "controlled substances!." Even with today's technology, it is very difficult to control marijuana!.

A cop can't tell if a driver is stoned with a bloodtest!. Say you have a kid and your kid's schoolbus driver smokes dope!. We just can't control it as a recreational substance so only terminally ill cancer patients and people like that are allowed to have it!.

While dope may be less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, it can't be controlled in terms of intoxication!. Decriminalization is about the best you can hope for!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tobacco is addictive, but not mind altering!. Alcohol can have effects on your mental state but isn't necessarily "addictive per say!. (plus when they tried to outlaw it they only created more crime) but marijuana is addictive and mind altering!. It effects the way people who use it behave, and it has long term mental effects!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

some of these answers are nuts! alcohol not addictive!?!? why is there aa then!? or mind altering!? please! but anyway yea it's the government and taxes and all that bs!. what ppl don't understand is if they legalized it it prolly wouldn't be as bad as they think in terms of being able to control it but then again i guess you never knowWww@Answer-Health@Com

i have a theory!. One day this guy (lets call him bob) fell on his head!. The next day, Bob decided to make marijuana illegal because not only did he fall on his head he also had a giant stick stuck up his **** and was a control freak!. now marijuana is illegal!. D:Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's all about controlling what we do!. It'll be legal - in Canada - within the next 15-20 years - it's already pretty much de-criminalized here - just a light slap on the wrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Because the government wouldn't be able to tax!. Too many people try to grow their own that the government can't control it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cause the population of the world is crazy in every way!.!.!.
Global warming for exampleWww@Answer-Health@Com

government can clam tax for themWww@Answer-Health@Com
