A lot of different drugs can cause burning or discomfort when injected - some are pain medicines, but most are not directly related to anesthesia!.
However, the most likely culprit for what you are asking about is Propofol, an anesthetic sedative/hypnotic which is used for sedation and/or general anesthetic induction!. This is by far the most common drug used when putting patients to sleep for surgery!. It does burn quite a bit when injected thru the IV!. Most of us either mix it with lidocaine (a local anesthetic) or give lidocaine immediately beforehand to lessen the burning, but it doesn't take it all away!. The size of the vein, the rate it is given all play a part in how much it will burn!.
Unfortunately, it can't all be taken away, but it is very short-lived, and then comes the sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
