Why are people upset that Medical Insurance Covers Viagra but not Birth Controll!

Question: Why are people upset that Medical Insurance Covers Viagra but not Birth Controll!?
Viagra is a drug that is for people with certain conditions that need it so maintain and sustain an erection!. Birth Control is not a condition or medical issue!. It is a choice! People that take Viagra can not choose to get an erection without the pill!. Why is this such a big issue!? Birth Control is someone's "Choice" to have sex without getting pregnant!. Big difference there people!.
Bill O'Reilly spoke about this last night and he made some really good points!. However "Planned Parenthood" is saying it is hypocritical to carry Viagra and not BC!. Would someone please explain to me how it is being hypocritical to not cover a choice, and do cover a medical condition elimination pill!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

In many cases, contraceptives are used for more than just preventing pregnancy!. Many forms of contraceptives are also used to treat dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps during menstruation), menorrhagia (heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding), endometriosis (when the endometrium--the tissue lining the uterus--grows outside of the uterus), metorrhagia (abnormal bleeding or spotting between menstrual periods), to regulate irregular menstrual cycles, to alleviate the symptoms of PMS and PMDD, to alleviate the pain of mittelschmerz (painful ovulation), to reduce the risk of PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), to reduce the risk of iron-deficiency anemia, to reduce the risk of fibrocystic breast conditions (benign cysts), to reduce the risk of ovarian cysts, to reduce the risk of ectopic pregnacy (with exception to progesterone-only contraceptives), to prevent the risk of /reduce the growth of uterine fibroids, to prevent osteoporosis (oral contraceptive users are found to have an increase in bone density), as well as significantly reducing the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancers!.

If you were a woman you would understand that these are all medical issues and NOT choices!.

I know MANY women that use different forms of contraception for medical conditions, not to prevent unwanted pregnancy!. One of my best friends in high school was prescribed oral contraceptives for her severe endometriosis, and she was not sexually active!. Her endometriosis was so painful that it often kept her out of school or work, and her doctor told her that if she didn't try to have children young she would probably never have children--the scarring was that severe!. That was not a choice she made!. Another friend of mine was prescribed oral contraceptives because of life-threatening iron-deficieny anemia as a result of menorrhagia!. She was adamant about "saving herself" until marriage, so her pills were used to treat two different medical conditions!. While remaining chaste until she was married WAS her choice, her anemia and menorrhagia most certainly were NOT!.

I can understand that those men that suffer from erectile dysfunction do not CHOOSE to suffer from such a condition, but those men that are beyond the years they should be siring children or do not wish to have any children are essentially taking medications like Viagra and Cialis as a VANITY drug!. When you have an 80-year old man asking his doctor for a prescription for Viagra because he can't achieve or maintain an erection--not so that he can have children but so that he can engage in sexual activity--that is his choice, as well as a vanity issue!.

MY insurance (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield) covers some birth control methods!. Viagra, I'm not sure about as I'm a woman and obviously have no need of such medication!. For those that have insurance that cover Viagra but not contraceptives, the reason they are upset is because of the multiple uses/benefits of contraceptives, as opposed to the uses of Viagra!. What is Viagra used for!? Primarily to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)!. When you compare the conditions that these two medications treat or may help to alleviate the symptoms of, contraceptives treat far more!.

"Doctors are not allowed to prescribe it just for PMS reasons"!? I'm curious where you get your information from!. That is complete BS!. If you had the SLIGHTEST inkling of the human (specifically female) anatomy and physiology, you would know that while the exact cause of PMS is not known, there is a link to hormonal changes during a woman's menstrual cycle!. Birth control pills, synthetic HORMONES, can help provide the body with the necessary hormones to regulate a woman's cycle, and thus!.!.!.alleviate the symptoms of PMS!.

You want to b*tch about paying extra taxes and extra money to insurance companies because of a misconceived notion that women (both teenage and adult, alike) use contraceptives ONLY to prevent an unwanted pregnancies!? Because "some girls can't keep their legs shut"!? THAT works two ways!. A girl just can't knock herself up!. But that's stating the obvious!.

Personally, if I were to b*tch about something, I would b*tch about these women that are having babies because they are either to uninformed/misinformed/uneducated about contraception methods, don't have access to contraceptives, can't afford contraceptives, or their insurance does not cover contraceptives--and those same women are receiving Welfare benefits that MY tax dollars pay for, because they did not use contraception!. To me, THAT is an issue actually worthy of b*tching about!. I would rather see my tax dollars spent on people being properly educated on matters of sex and contraception, than having to support the Welfare children of people that do not use contraception!.

What would YOU rather see your tax dollars go to: a woman that is trying to be responsible enough to prevent the conception of a child that she does not want or is not capable of supporting, or supporting all of the children of that same woman because she did not use contraception!?

Do you really want to know why medical insurance premiums increase!? Because of the constant advances that are being made in the medical and technological fields and the need to continue the development of new technology and treatments (it's a necessary and competitive market); because there is an increased demand for healthcare; because of an increased use of prescription medications (specifically brand name over generic); because unemployment rates continue to rise, which means less people have medical insurance, and this uncompensated care has an effect on those that ARE insured; because of health care benefit changes mandated by legislation; and because of the state of the economy in general!.

Please, prove me wrong!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Birth control is not only used to have sex without getting pregnant!. Birth control can also regulate a woman's cycle and many birth controls have been proven to clear up skin, also!. Sounds to me like you are being the hypocrite thinking birth control is only used to prevent pregnancy, when it is used also for other medical conditions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with the other girl!. Birth control is not only used for pregnancy prevention but also for the elimination of acne!. and it is also used for lightening overly long and heavy periods which also give cramps that prevent women from going about there day as normal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My insurance does not cover Viagra but does cover birth control, I have blue cross/blue shield!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah, getting an erection is real important!. If a man had to choose between buying food or buying viagra (if they needed it) I hate to see which they'd choose!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
