Tonsilectomy for a five year old?!
Question: Tonsilectomy for a five year old!?
What should I expect!? We see the ENT tomorrow!. She is very small for her age, underweight and a redhead!. I am worried about her tremendously!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had my tonsilectomy done when I was 6, MAYBE 7!.!.
Everything went well!.!. I think I was in the hospital overnight!.!. don't remember exactly when (time of day) the actual operation was performed!. I just remember my parents being there and assuring me that I'd be fine, and giving me a new carebear for company!.
I was under general anasthesia during the procedure!.!.!.!. all I remember is them putting a mask on my face, and telling me to take deep breaths!.!. and that's the last thing I remembered!. I woke up with a pretty sore throat and was immediately given a green popcicle (my favorite) and orders to eat lots of ice cream and little else (I think I was allowed to eat soup after a couple days)
Anyway, the bottom line is that, of course as a young child I was a bit scared and nervous, but I trusted adults, trusted my parents when they said I'd be fine!.!.!. and all in all, it was NOT a very traumatic or painful experience!. But it DID seriously lessen the frequency of the extremely painful ear infections I'd constantly get as a child, so!.!.!.

BTW!.!. this was 1986!.!.!. not sure how things are done now, but I assume that technology is BETTER, if anything!. I'd suggest general anasthesia, even if it's not still the norm, I'm sure they'd still do it if requested!.!.!. I'd assume it would be aLOT less traumatic for a small child than being awake during the procedure, even if they were numbed up!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
