Definately they do cause eye strain!.
When you stare at a computer screen for extended time, you blink less, causing dry eyes!. You are staring into a light source constantly, which causes the eyes to remain the same focal point for hours, not like normally walking around focusing in and out constantly!. This causes farsightedness and you will need reading glasses!.
OSHA recommends that you look away from your computer every few min to exercise the eye and focus on distant object, and take a break every 30 min of computer use, for about 5 min!. This is hard to do when you are playing a game!. I have been a gamer for about 10 yrs and i have to wear reading glasses now to read print closer than the distance of my monitor (my arms not long enough lol)!.
TV is the same, but most dont stare intently at a TV from a distance of about 18 inches, for hours at a time, like we do monitors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
