Question: Is it a bad thing to be an organ donor!?
I know being an organ donor is supposed to be a good thing because you're donating the organs you're not using anymore after you die!. But someone recently told me there have been instances where paramedics let people die, who might have otherwise lived, just so they can harvest their organs for people who need them!. Has anyone else ever heard anything like this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's absolutely NOT TRUE!. The medical team always chooses life for the patient!. Organ donors are usually brain dead in the ICU!. Before they disconnect the respirator, they will check with the family!. It is a good thing to be a donor, at least some good can come from something so terrible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
That is so totally not true its not even funny!. The paramedics do not even know if you are a canidate for organ harvesting!. If the organs go without oxygen for a certain period of time, they are no longer any good!.
In addition, the body has to be kept on medication to keep the organs viable!. These drugs are not even carried on an ambulance!.
The patient's organs have to be able to be used!. In other words they have to have another body that is compatable!. There is absolutely no way they can know that!.

Paramedics do not look to see if a person is an organ donor!. They don't look to see if the person is insured!. Nor do they look for identification in most instances!.
If a paramedic lets you "die", your organs cannot be harvested!. When you die, your organs stop receiving oxygen and are very quickly not suitable for donation!. Most organ donors are brain-injured, "flatline" patients who are in the hospital on life support!. They do not have brain activity, but are kept alive via ventilator and other life support!.
Once the individual is disconnected, the organs must be removed very quickly!. My students watch a video in which a heart donor has his heart removed from his body while it's still beating!. It's difficult to watch, but it's important for donors and their families to realize it's often done this way!. Organs deprived of oxygen die very quickly and are useless!.

It is completely without basis!. Donor organs have to be carefully matched to the recipient!. Not everyone is a good candidate for a particular liver, for example!. Also, paramedics would need to have a way to keep the organ alive - but how!? Then there'd have to be a surgeon waiting to cut out the organ and an operating room that just happened to be handy !.!.!. you get the picture!. Totally implausible!.

Definitely just rumors!. Anyone who is a paramedic, EMT, doctor etc will do all they can to save you if something happens!. I'm an organ donor, I think it's a great thing to be able to help someone if something happens to you!. Besides, if you needed an organ, wouldn't you want someone you matched you to be a donor!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
I have never heard of this happening!. I doubt that it happens very often if at all, because parametics devote their lives to helping people live so I don't think they would let someone die!. I think they are good people who wouldn't be able to live with themselves if they did that!. I am an organ donor and I hope everyone who isn't decides to become one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Paramedics have no way of knowing what blood type you have, does your tissue match, do you have cancer or other condition that would prevent you from being a donor!.

Stories like this come and go all the time!. They may be true, they may be not!. I still have my organ donor card to donate my organs if I die!.
There are many fears, I might get hit by a truck, shot at while driving to work, or struck by lightning in a parking lot!. I can't worry about that, so I don't!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you no when u get a drivers licence u choose if u want to donate your organs!?!? well my mom told me that if u ever get into an accident and ur kinda dieing or what ever theyll let u die cuz ur an organ donar and they want them but i dont no!.!. im not a donorWww@Answer-Health@Com
