Opinions and facts needed from smart people. Who is right?!

Question: Opinions and facts needed from smart people!. Who is right!?
My boyfriend mixed tuna and mayo in a bowl so he could make a sandwich!. He ate a few sandwiches, and left the tuna on the counter in the bowl!. Four hours later I walked into the kitchen and it was still on the counter!. I asked him what it was doing there (because I'm really picky about the counter being messy) and he said he was still going to eat some later and he didn't want it cold so he wouldn't put it in the fridge!. I told him it was probably no good any more but he insists he will still eat it!. Would you!? Would it still be good after sitting on the counter for 4 hours (and the kitchen isn't air conditioned so it is like 83 degrees in there!.) I always thought mayo spoiled easy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Here's the deal, mayo is made from eggs and oil, that's all that's in there!. We all know what tuna is (provided you're not Jessica Simpson!.) Will oil spoil when left out, no, but fish and eggs will!. While the oil in the mayo will coat the fish and eggs helping to stop bacteria from growing it's not really something you should consider a safety net!. I'm guessing 8 out of 10 times he can eat it with no ill consequences, but at around 20% odd that you will get sick would you really test your luck!? If he wants to eat it let him, but for your own piece of mind stick it in the fridge!. By the way, cold mayo tastes better anyway, hot mayo just makes your bread soggy!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It isn't the Mayo that is going to spoil, it's the tuna!. Open mayonnaise can be kept without refrigeration for days without spoiling!. Tuna doesn't have any preservatives and will spoil much quicker!. Tuna salad will spoil with or without refrigeration, it just takes longer when it is cold!. Leaving the tuna salad on the counter isn't a good idea, after 4 hours it will probably be alright, but your boyfriend needs to start keeping perishables in the refrigerator!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mayo goes bad very quickly,, I dont know about the tuna, it probably does too!.!.!.!.I believe that some people build a tolerance for food gone bad,, I had an uncle who would eat food thats been out all night and never get sick!. But, its just a matter of time, I would never play Russian Roulette with food, anyway its gross the way mayo gets clear and stinks when its been sitting out/Www@Answer-Health@Com

odds are he's eaten left out tuna salad before and has lived to do it again!. i personally wouldn't!. the words "keep refrigerated" and "promptly refrigerate or discard any unused portion" are put on food labels for a reason!. your boyfriends waiting on a stomach ache, or worse yet, food poisoning!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't eat it because of the mayo that was left sitting in it!.
It sounds like it would be a bit spoiled!.
I eat tuna, and if there's leftovers, refrigerator it goes!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Only four hours, your stomach can handle much worse things than spoiled tuna mayo!.stop annoying your boyfriend with trivial nonsense before you start arguing over this!.hes right, its his stomach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are right!. Mayo spoils easily, and tuna shouldn't be left out either!. 2 hours at room temp is the max for food to be left out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not so sure but I think nothing is going to happen to him since science says we should heat the tuna for about a quarter so that it'll be healthy!.so heat will not spoil itWww@Answer-Health@Com

its bad!. welcome!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Honestly its only 4 hours, I think it'd be OK!. Not much bacteria can grow at like 80 degrees in 4 hours!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most common food poisonings results from eating foods that contain large numbers of harmful bacteria or from eating foods in which bacteria have previously produced toxins (poisonous substances)!.

Bacteria are extremely small living organisms!. They thrive in warm, moist foods, and many can double their number every 20 minutes when the temperature is between 90-100 degrees F!. In addition to temperature, the rate of bacterial growth depends on moisture content and acidity!. Bacteria can grow rapidly in moist, low-acid foods such as eggs, milk, meat, fish, and poultry!.

There are two ways to keep a packed lunch safe to eat!. One is to choose foods which may safely be kept at room temperature because food-poisoning bacteria do not grow in them!. The other is to keep the bacteria count low by careful handling of foods!.
Here are some food that must be handled carefully:
These potentially unsafe foods are perishable; they must be handled properly to keep bacteria from growing:
raw or cooked meat, fish, and poultry

sandwiches and salads which contain meat, fish, or poultry

cooked vegetables

cooked cereals and legumes, such as rice and beans

custards and puddings

milk and milk products (except hard cheeses and yogurt)

shellfish

dressing and gravies

processed meats (bologna, hot dogs, etc!.)

I never eat anything left out for more than 15 minutes!. Besides being gross, I can't stand anything that may have been touched by a fly!.

My husband, however, apparently doesn't care!. He would have probably beaten your boyfriend to the bowl!. Ick!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
