According to my BMI I'm underweight...?!


Question: According to my BMI I'm underweight!.!.!.!?
I worked out my BMI and I scored 16!.5!.
18!.5 or under is under weight!.!.!.

Do you think this is serious!? I don't want to gain more body fat, I'm actually trying to tone up (through working out, not that I do that a lot) I'm not really sure what to do!.

Help, Advise, Thoughts!?

i have the same problem as you!. im supposingly underweight also, my doctor told me!. but the thing is im just naturally skinny since i have a high matabalism [sorry probably spelled that wrong] but anyways, you probably are just naturally skinny and its okay if you are underweight a bit because its just an average of all different people!. i would talk to your doctor if you are really concerned!. some people just cant gain any fatWww@Answer-Health@Com

First things first, you are 15, so unless you are significantly overweight, which obviously you aren't, you shouldn't really be concerning yourself with you weight!. That is what's wrong with society today, they put far too much pressure on young women!. You are still going through puberty and still growing!. Any doctor will tell you this!.

Second, the BMI scale is based on an average, 15 y/o Caucasian female of a certain height with a certain bone mass!. Unless, you specifically fit their mold, which I doubt caused it is skewed, it will be hard to guage where you should be!. The BMI is merely a tool to help you in seeing where you fall based on an average but shouldn't be taken too seriously if you are slightly underweight or overweight!. You have to think about the fact that muscle weighs more fat for one and also think about the fact that you could line 3 different women who all wear a size 8 and they could all look different to you!. Bone mass goes into this as well!.

I am 5'6, 135lbs and I work out everyday!. Most people who see me think I might weigh 125lbs on a good day and they are surprised to hear I weigh more!. Muscle is more than fat!. My BMI says that I am 21!.8 but just 3 months ago I was deployed and weighed 120lbs!. It said my BMI was 19!.4 which is normal but I found to be grossly underweight!. I am sayin this to say that it is all in the eye of the beholder!. I couldnt wait to gain back the weight and I am glad that I have!.

Relax, I am sure you look fine!. Remember to work out to be healthy not to be skinny because skinny people have heart attacks as well!. Eat right, stay active and get rest!. You seem like you are on the right track but don't let the BMI score scare you!. The trick to health is to start out with good lifestyle habits while you are young so that they can carry over into your adult life and hopefully be passed on to your children!.
