Question: So, anyone have any tips on handling insomnia!?
Every night, it takes me 2 to 3 hours to finally fall asleep after my head hits the pillow!. Random questions and concerns just keep popping up in my mind and keep me from relaxing!. I have been this way all my life, but I am getting tired of it!. I have been told that physical exaustion helps, but I already work out every day!. I also do not want to resort to pills or alcohol!. Is there anything else I could try!?

And please do not suggest counting sheep!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all, don't listen to the person who said to drink warm milk!. The for this is that you sleep better when your core temperature is lower!. That means anything warm (like warm milk, tea, soup, etc!.) can hinder your sleep!. Instead, try a bowl of ice cream or a Popsicle!. It might not be as relaxing as a cup of warm milk, but it will work lots better!.

While we're on the subject of core temperature, do not exercise or do any strenuous activities within three hours of going to bed!.

Avoid caffeine all together and not just before bed!. The reason for this is because caffeine stays in your system for a long time, making you jittery and restless hours after you had that cup of coffee!.

When you find yourself not being able to sleep, get out of bed and do something relaxing like listening to some quiet music or a nice book!. Stay away from TV (it stimulates the mind versus relaxing it)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Melatonin!. It is NOT a "pill" although it does come in pill form!. It's a naturally occuring substance in your body that doesn't make you sleep but quiets your mind so that you can sleep!. Often stress or anxiety will cause lowered production of Melatonin in your body and taking this supplement, you can find it in almost any vitamin aisle, will help get you back to balance!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Warm milk can help, reading a book before bed!.

Dont do anything other than sleep in your bed, dont watch tv or go on the computer or read, ever!. Make sure your brain understands your bed is for sleeping, not multitasking!. This did wonders for me in college!. My bed was lofted, so Icouldnt sit on it without hitting my head, so I ONLY slept in it, and I slept so much better!. At home I live in my bed (am in bed now actually) and I never get to sleep!.

Also, dont eat right before you go to bed, at least an hour before!.

Hope this helps!

I used to have this problem when i was younger!. I am 20 now!. What I did was i started waking up early in the morning and I would stay up all through out the day no matter what!. That way by the time 9:00 pm rolled around, I was really tired and definetly ready to sleep!. Also try drinking red wine about an hour before you want to knock off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The questions are random because sleep is on your mind!. Try this: think about the perplexing question!. You may wake up with an epiphany!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are having racing thoughts at bedtime!. Try some cognitive therapy!. You may have to get prescribed a temporary sleep aid!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
