Question: Need some medical answers for my cousin
ok i dont know much about whats going on, my granddad told me that my lil cousin that has spinall bifica if i spelled that right!? is about to get some operation that lets him use a bag to use the bathroom in, starts with a c but forgot word, its because my cousin is 8 years old but has the bladder of a 4 year old, among other things, my granddad wanted me to findout some questions he had on it but since i dont know the word im hoping that one of you will know what it is and can explain some things on it for me!.
1!. someone told my granddad that the bag will have to be cleaned every 2 hours, is this true because we want to know what should be done about school if this will have to happen!.
2!. how major of a operation is this!?

your cousin has a condition called spina bifida!. it means that when he was developing his spinal cord didn't completely close unfortunately the closing of the spinal cord starts up in the neck and progresses toward the lower back!. because the nerves to control urination and defecation are at the lower part of the spinal cord they can be affected by spina bifida and the person may not be able to control urination and defecation!. as a result the patient may be required to have a colostomy to hold stool temporarily until it can be emptied or/and a catheterization for urine!. Either way it is no fun!. the colostomy is a medium sized operation, the catheterization isn't an operation, but is still inconvienient and a major pain!.

Spina bifida is a deformaty that happens in the spine at birth!. Look it up on your search engine for more information!. They other thing you seem to be asking about is called a colostomy bag!. When someone needs to have this is usually because they have something wrong with their bladder of intestines!. Look up: Spina bifida and then look up Colostomy!. Hope that helpsWww@Answer-Health@Com
