I have heard that sensations of that type can be anything from a pinched nerve to herniated discs!. A lot of people get those sensations whether sitting or standing for long periods of time!. They can come and go or stay for long periods of time!. Alot of those sensations are back related because there are so many nerves and the pain travels from the back and connected nerves!.
If you are in a lot of pain please seek advice from your doctor!.

neuropathic pain can often show up as a burning sensation!.!.!. and your description sounds like a typical nerve pathway from your lower back!. As someone else pointed out, a pinched nerve or other low back dysfunction can cause this!.
Your best bet is to see your doctor about it!. He/she should evaluate your mobility, try to duplicate the sensation (to help determine source) and if appropriate, send you for radiologic imaging (xray, MRI, etc)!.

Burning pain in a limb is often a sign of nerve damage, and the fact that it's reaching a variable way down the back of your leg makes it almost certain that this is related to your back, probably between your ribs and pelvis!. Best go to see a chiropractor!. It's not free but it's the best way to get pain free!Www@Answer-Health@Com
