Hello,

If it wasn't too painful straight away after you did it, but it is very painful now, then almost certainly there is no fracture of the small bone in the end of the thumb, (fractures are very painful from immediately afterwards)!.

If it's blue and throbbing then it's very bruised, meaning blood has seeped out into the soft flesh since last night!. This will go down like all bruising, probably go a bit yellow first!. Really the thumb should be elevated, lifted up in an arm-sling, rather than worked with today!.

If there is a blue blood collection under the thumbnail itself, this could be let out by 'twisting' a tiny hole through the thumbnail with a 21- gauge hypodermic needle point!. This will relieve the pressure under the nail caused by a new blood clot under there!. When you've seen this done you can do it yourself, but it might be better now to get a health professional or first-aider to do this for you!.

If you have a blood clot under your nail, the blood clot lifts the nail (above) away from the nail-bed (below), and in this case, you will probably lose this nail, yes, (although another one will grow)!. In this case, I don't quite agree with the previous answerer!.

I hope this is of some help!.

this happened to my mom once, her nail eventually did fall off, and she went to work the next day!. what she did is wrapped it up snug and went along with her daily life!. she changed the bandage 3-4 times a day and was taking Tylenol during the day and Tylenol PM at night!. if you must, go visit your doctor and he'll know what to do!.
IM SO SORRY!
get well soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Owww!

Run it under cold water, and then try and move it around to get the blood circulation going!. Your nail won't fall off, just let it heal and don't let anything interfere with it! Www@Answer-Health@Com
