Queer is a term used by the gay/lesbian population to describe an other than straight/heterosexual person!.
It is used along with 'gay' and 'lesbian' to describe a homosexual (sometimes bi or other) person who is proudly non-mainstream, mainstream being understood to be what you might think of as a steryotypical heterosexual social reality!.
Queer often also means 'out and proud'
