Hello,

Eyepatches are often prescribed to young children with myopia who are developing a squint as well!. The patch goes over the *best* eye, (the 'straight' eye), so forcing to brain to look thro' the worst eye, the squinting eye!.

This prevents the brain from 'neglecting' the picture coming from the squinting eye!.

The pictures the brain is getting are too far apart to be 'fused' into a regular 3D image, so it is forced to ignore one of the images!. The problem is if the brain suppresses the 'squinting' eye image for any length of time, this suppression becomes permanent and irreversible!. In effect you lose the sight of the squinting eye, although this eye itself has nothing wrong with it (except pointing in the wrong direction, which is down to the eye muscles)!.

So far as I know, eye patching has never been recommended for the treatment of myopia in any other context!.

The nearest thing I can think of is the 'pinhole,' - - if you make a pin hole in a card and look through the pinhole, this will both correct short- and long- sightedness, - - you could try it and see!.

Even wearing glasses (spectacles) or soft contact lenses, does not permanently improve myopia!. However, hard (rigid gas permeable) contact lenses are known to prevent myopia from getting any worse!. This is due to the mild squashing effect the hard lenses have on the fronts of the eyes!.

I hope this is of some help!.

That's a myth!. Myopia is short-sightedness, meaning you cannot see from further away, it's all blurry, only surgery to fix the cornea can cure it, or glasses/contact lenses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
