Create a relaxing bedtime routine!. Take a shower or bath before bed, brush your teeth, and turn on some soothing music!. I often watch tv until I fall asleep, but I know that's not for everyone! I also sleep with a fan on!. You could try some white noise or some nature sounds to fall asleep to!. Here are some other tips that might help:
You could try going to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning!.
Exercise is good -- just be sure not to exercise too close to bedtime (within three hours), as it could keep you up!.
Keep your bedroom cool, quiet, and dark!.
Drink a cup of relaxing tea!.
Massage your feet, especially with warm oil, right before bed -- it's very relaxing!.
Stretch a bit before you lie down!. You can literally stretch out some of the "kinks" and tension of the day!.
Stop working well before bedtime!. This gives your mind a chance to settle down before sleep!.
Don't drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages near your bedtime!. Reduce stress in your life!.
Upgrade your mattress, if needed, so that you feel completely comfortable and relaxed!.

Well, I always try a form of yoga!. I didn't think it would work when I first started, but it your lying down and you can't get to sleep, take a few minutes to meditate on things!.

Clear your mind first!. Then focus on relaxing each bodily muscle one at a time!. Start with your feet, and work your way up!. This should send messages throughout your body that it is time to rest!.

Then, focus on your breathing!. Breathe through your stomache, not your chest!. Take your time!. If you get sidetracked, just focus on your breathing again!. Then, if you need to, you can think about something simple!.

Don't think about stress at work or anything like that!. If you have a pet, think about that, but don't focus on anything that will make you tense!. Then, you will simply fall into a light sleep that will get deeper a little later!.

I do that when I can't sleep!. Try it some time!.

It depends on what is keeping you awake!. For example, I have hot flashes and night sweats!. A cool shower before bed helps me sleep faster!.

If your mind is busy making lists of what you have to the next day, write the tasks down so your mind can let go!.

Don't eat or drink in the hour before bed!.!.!.digestion can keep you awake, as can having to get up to empty your bladder!.

Sleep in a cool room!. If you are cold; but on a blanket!.
