Well, he's going through puberty so most likely it is because of that!. However, you should take him to the doctor just in case, for two reasons--

First, men get breast cancer as well as women, but more often it is fatal in men because they don't check their breast tissue and often ignore symptoms until it's too late for treatment!. So, get him checked out just to make sure he's OK!.

Second, you want your son to take seriously any unusual lump!. Getting it checked out will let him know that, even though it's probably nothing, suspicious lumps anywhere should be checked!. Since he is going through puberty, this also would be a good time for his doctor to show him the proper way to check his testicles, as well!. Men should perform routine testicular checks monthly, just as women do routine breast exams monthly!. This would be a good time for him to be educated in these routine tests!. They could save his life as an adult!.

You want to him to take this seriously, as you should, but not worry!. So the best way to accomplish this is just to make an appointment to see the doctor, just as a routine precaution!.

-------

Also, you mention bullying!. While he is at the doctor, ask him about gynecomastia!. About of third of all men get this!. It's the development of breast tissue in men -- "man boobs" -- and can be quite embarrassing!. It's not solved by weight loss, but can be corrected with a minor surgery to remove the excess tissue!. It's not a health problem, per se, but it can cause quite a bit of emotional trauma, especially in a young boy!. Some insurance plans will cover this surgery!.

Hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

probably just that he is hitting puberty, look it up on the net apparently its quiet common in boys of this age!.!.hope this helps

In response to certain others on here it is very unlikely to be cancerous!.!.however it is very likely to be puberty, i am not disputing boys dont get breast cancer but boys of this age rarely get breast cancer!.!.and many get lumps when hitting or going through puberty!.
Do get it checked though, just to be safeWww@Answer-Health@Com

Fairly common in boys of that age, probably hormonal but you must get it checked by the doctor!.

EDIT: I've just had a look at some of the other answers on this!. Honestly, I think they're scare mongering!. I'm almost certain it will be nothing to worry about, it is very common indeed for boys to get lumpy breasts at this age, I promise you the hormonal changes cause it!. However, there is a miniscule chance that it may be something that needs treatment ie an infected gland!. There are more serious things but not very likely!. However, it is very important to get it checked out at the doc's!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't be too concerned, particularly if it is causing him discomfort (as daft as that might sound!)

Get him checked out by your GP who will be able to put both your minds at rest!. I wouldn't be worrying about cancer though - honestly!.
