I recently read an interesting article about rescheduling your sleep cycle for the upcoming school year!. I too tend to stay up late!.!.!.sometimes as late as 6 AM watching TV and using the computer!. Apparently it has been found that watching TV and using the computer, because of the light coming from them, overstimulate the brain's pineal gland and thalamus which govern wakefulness!. This leads to a poor sleep schedule and prevents you from going into the restorative deeper stages of sleep!. Therefore you end up staying up late and then the sleep you do get is not as restorative as it should be, resulting in being very tired in the morning!. It recommended no TV or computer for one hour prior to going to bed!. I find this hard to do as I am a computer addict but have found I sleep better and get to bed at a much more reasonable hour when I do this!. Studies also report that reading at night sets off sleep-inducing theta waves in the brain!. This results in better sleep, appropriate deep sleep stages, and easier to get up in morning!.This really works for me too!.
Use of somewhat dimmer light will also help your body's Circadian Rhythm get set for normal night time sleepiness!. Avoid leaving the TV or bright lights on when you sleep because this will make your body think it is daytime and your sleep cycle will be disrupted!.
According to my doctor, one very important element in sleeping is to get up in the morning, even if you haven't slept 8 hours, which is also a trick to reset your Circadian Rythm to sleeping at night!. He says it is even more important than what time you go to sleep in accomplishing this!. Also a hot shower or bath at bedtime actually increases your body temperature and this inhibits falling asleep!. For the same reason avoid exercising within 2 hours of bedtime!. If you eat a lot of snacks prior to bed time your body will spend time digesting the food and your sleep quality will be poor until the food is digested!.
So there is hope for this night person, myself, to be awake in the daytime and go to sleep at a normal time!. Humans are not nocturnal and are not supposed to stay up all night although you couldn't prove it by me!.
Give this a try!.!.!.I'm surprised at how quickly I became a day person with these steps in place!. Good luck and have a great school year!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe I could be wrong but I think you answered your own question by saying: "i really need to break this habit and start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier," that's a solution!.
