I am a radiographer and would never dream of going to and from work in my uniform, although i know lots of staff who do just because they are lazy!. My hospital is trying to crack down on this but some staff claim that they have no changing facilities!. Also some people u might see are community nurses who may be helping a patient to shop or taking them to an appointment!. but i completely agree with uWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well, I don't know what country you're in but it depends on hospital policy!. Where I live hospital staff must always change out of their uniform before leaving the hospital!. This strikes me as highly ineffective though given that they just take home their uniforms after work to wash them and so on!.

And in theory your hair is full of bugs too, some things just aren't controllable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It started when hospitals stopped laundering uniforms to save money!. The thing is, most dresses are coloured and staff wash at 40 of even 30 degrees now, which does not kill all bacteria so even a 'clean' uniform is not bacteria free!. Lets see a Trust make a change and see if numbers of MR SA etc is reduced!. Is there anyone out there prepared to make that commitment!? Or has it been researched and hidden!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that is the least of the NHS probs!. Ive just spent a month in an Exeter hosp and what I saw horrified me relating to cleaning and hygiene!. You may wonder why I didnt complain!. I did once about a male nurses lack of hand washing, and for three days when my food tray was given it lacked a utensil or something, my drugs werent given to me, and when they were the painkillers were so late it was nearly the next pk give out time and if taken I would have od!.Lots of stuff like that!. I am neither old or a fuddy duddy!. My consultant wants me to write a letter of complaint and I darent in case I need more treatment!. I know Im a coward!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Our general hospital has solved that problem!.
Everyone wears "scrubs"(Look like pyjamas)!.
They have to be changed daily and left behind at the end of a shift!.
Nurses wouldn't be seen dead in them in town!

PS To Badcat
In defence of Community Nurses--In UK I was far too busy and overworked as a community R!.N to take people for appointments or shopping and would have been shot had I done so!
That goes for all the members of my "team" as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
