You seem to be doing most of the right things, to treat your outbreaks!. I have to say!. " COLD SORES SUCK!" I hate them! Herpes is caused by the hominis virus, a viral infection, of the skin!. It is most likely something you have had and carried most of your life!. The reason for outbreaks, is because when the virus clears, it hides in the nerves and is never completely removed from the body!. Cold sores are herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) Many people are infected and don't even know it!. Unfortunately, they carry the virus, spread the disease and infect other people without knowing it!. HSV-1, is NOT the same as genital herpes but CAN be spread similarly, by kissing, sharing personal items etc!.!.!.Also, Exposure to the sun, fever (thus the phrase 'fever blisters') and menstruation can also trigger an outbreak!.The virus is EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS! I know you didn't ask for the 'reasons' WHY you get the cold sores but I thought it may help you!. I don't know if it is mentioned anywhere else but I personally notice, I get them from stress too! There are A LOT of different things you can do/use to cure or relieve cold sores!. Things work different, for different people!.Some work better than others!. I think you are doing some of the best things you can do, short of prescription medication,or going to see the Doctor!. I've heard of prescription pills you can take on a regular basis, to prevent outbreaks!. There are SO MANY ways to treat the cold sores!. You should look some up online!.The reason I say this, is because you may find something better than I suggest here!. My personal way to treat cold sores is this; at the first sign of my cold sore, I pop the blisters, put rubbing alcohol on then to dry them out, disinfect them and stop the spread!. Then, I put my 'Retin -A cream (only by prescription) on them and they peel off in a matter of a few days!. There are other things besides retin-A, that heal them also!.I know some people put 'ointments' of some kind on to heal them too but for me, ointments alone seem to draw out the healing time!. I prefer to dry them up a!.s!.a!.p!. and then put the ointments on to soften and heal!. So!.!.!.I guess it's all about how fast you want them to heal and how you prefer to treat them!. May be the healing 'ointments' are better in the long run, I don't know!. Good luck to you hope you find a good regiment for yourself!. sorry so long! Www@Answer-Health@Com
