My roommate is taking Anorexia to the extreme. PLEASE ADVISE ME, I FEAR FOR HER !

Question: My roommate is taking Anorexia to the extreme!. PLEASE ADVISE ME, I FEAR FOR HER LIFE!!?
Okay so my roommate started this year off very overweight!. She was 215lbs and 5'5''!. In THREE weeks she has dropped to 180!. That's 35lbs in three weeks! At first she was just excersizing like crazy and eating like 700-900 calories a day!. Now she's too weak to excercise so to make up for that she only eats 200-300 calories per day!. That's it!!! She can barely get out of bed and confines herself to her room all day!. She was too weak to even go to class today!

What do I do!? I've tried talking to her, talked to our friends and called her parents!

Her parents don't think it's a big deal because they don't see her as being "Skinny"!. Which she's not, she's still 180!.!.!. but because it's been so long since she ate more than an apple, I seriously think she's like dying!.

I don't feel you have to be sickly skinny to be "Anorexic" !.!.!. I mean I guess all anorexic's have to start somewhere right!?

*Sigh*!. I really need help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Anorexia is a complex mental disorder (not much unlike schizophrenia etc!.)!. The malnutrition of the brain then starts contributing to the thinking disorder (false self imagine etc!.)!. If you really want to help your friend, you may want to involve professional help (Universities usually offer "free" mental/behavioral health services)!. This is probably not something that you or she herself can handle!. Good luck! And yes, a person does not need to be below 90 lbs or so to be considered anorexic, anything below the average for his or her height/age/activity level is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She's losing weight far too fast, which not only makes it easier for her to gain it right back, but weakens her in a big way, as you've seen!. This is really unhealthy behavior!. If you're on a college campus, drag her to whatever medical facility is available and have a doctor tell her this!. If she still doesn't believe it, she needs a psychologist!. She has other problems than just her weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tell her unless she goes on an actual healthy diet, she is going to gain it alllllll back!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

oh god thats a horrible situation for you to be in, and its great to see you care so much!. you are right you do not have to be skin and bones to be anorexic and she is obviously suffering!.

from suffering from anorexia myself, although mild i would advise you show ehr some shock tactics as to what will happen to her!. search up anorexia, and side effcts!. for e!.g!. she will lose her hair most likely in a few months from the shock, she may screw up her organs!.!.her muscle will be eaten and the 180 she weighs will be rpettty much pure fat!. and tell her to be aware her heart is a muscle so!.!.shes eating her heart basically!.

if all else fails call a doctor out or the collegne nurse!.!.and if shes not accepting it i dont no what you can do but show her shocking images and the consequences of her actions if she doesnt start eating!.!.thats what made me eat again!.!.though she sounds worse than what i had!.!.!.i hope she gets better, and you sound like a great caring friend so i wish you all the bestWww@Answer-Health@Com
