The evidence suggests that it is quite common and normal for children to accidentally discover the mechanisms for sexual pleasure, which are ready and built into your body ready for when you become an adult!. I don't think that you should feel any shame or sense of abnormality about discovering this as a child, and it will only affect your adult relationships if you let it play on your mind and if you hold on to beliefs that there is something odd or different about you!.
It sounds like your Mother did a good job of guiding you and not telling you that it was wrong or bad, but just guiding you to do it in private!.
It is possible for most men to orgasm through stimulation of the prostate, although I am not sure if this would be accompanied by an erection!. Maybe this is what you discovered!?

Find the one on your campus or get a hold of the text for the class!. I can't find mine right now but I know we covered it!. The teacher might have one on reserve, as they're about $80 used online!. Lots of great info for questions like this!.
