Question: Sanitiser v washing hands!?
With the drought in parts of Australia, alot of people have taken to using sanitising gels instead of washing their hands with soap and water!. Is this really an effective way to kill the germs!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suffer from dermatitis, which is a direct result of detergents!. So I can't use the *soft soap* pumps that you find in public toilets!. Therefore, I always have my trusty bottle of Dettol or Aquium in my pocket or bag!.

Being that it's basically isopropyl alcohol, it destroys the majority of germs!.

The fact that it's helping me save water is a bonus!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless you turn the tap on full bore while you wash your hands for an hour, the water saving part is just BS!. Water is free and comes out of the tap!. The production process for manufacturing the cleansers and getting them to the shops is a lot more harmful to the environment!.

Soap and water is sufficient and will actually remove dirt as opposed to just sterilising it!. Marketing companies will have you believe otherwise, but guess what, humans can and do survive in extreme squalor for extended time, so a little dirt on your hands is no biggie!. I'm not saying stop washing, just bear in mind someone wants to sell you something!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In Nursing school we decided to do an experiment!.

We had our blue light which shows up bacteria!.
Under this light we saw what was on 2 people's hands!.

One went off and did a procedural handwash with soap and water!.

The other a handwash using only the alcohol hand sanitizer!.

Both came back and we went over the hands with the light again!.

The one that washed her hands with soap and water were actually less covered by bacteria than the one with alcohol!

A turn up for the books!. Although the alcohol killed a heck of a lot of germs!.

I live in Australia on stage 3A water restrictions!.

In the hospital we use stanitizer unless our hands are visibly dirty OR every 5th or 6th patient!. What ever comes first!.

I still wash my hands with soap and water, but they do feel 'cleaner' with sanitizer after washing with the good old soap and water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

At the hospital I work at, they recommend hand sanitizers if your hands are basically clean (no body fluids or obvious dirt) and to wash your hands with soap and water if there is obvious dirt, body fluids or a gunky build up of sanitizer on your hands!. For me, I like soap and water!. But, Infection Control presented a lecture that stated both ways are effective as long as they are done correctly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is supposed to be very effective for killing germs and in fact is used in hospitals!. However, I personally find my hands do not feel clean only using a sanitizing gel!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's almost pure alcohol, so it's definitely going to kill almost everything on your hands!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes but on your hands you have germs that also help u not all germs are bad and using sanitizer which kills 99% of germs ur also killing helpful germs too!. washing your hands is better because it kills off mostly only the bad germsWww@Answer-Health@Com
