It's still on my mind ....?!

Question: It's still on my mind !.!.!.!.!?
Twenty years ago my father went into a hospice suffering from cancer!. On day one he was chatting to us and quite calm, on day two he was unconscious and when I questioned that with the sister, she simply stated it 'was the medication'!. On day three he passed away!. I believe that two other men in the three bedded room also passed away in a similar time scale!. While it was a relief to know that may dad was not in pain anymore and at peace, it still nags me that he was 'helped along' in some way!. I spoke to my GP at the time who recognised the situation ( without undue comment ) and simply told me to accept the peace that it had brought!. But the situations still nags my conscience !.!.!.!.!. can anyone provide words of advice here please !.!.!.!.!. !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I assume your Dad was in the latter stages of cancer or he wouldn't have gone to hospice!. Because this is true of most who go there, unfortunately their stay is usually short!. Try to be thankful his 1st day was calm, quite & you could chat with him!. On day 2 the medication was letting him sleep & keeping him free of pain, that is a lot to be thankful for too, because it would have hurt you even more if he had been hurting & scared of death & wanting to go home!.
I'm sorry for your loss!. God BlessWww@Answer-Health@Com

All I can say is that your conscience should be clear as you did nothing wrong!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am sorry for yourloss, I too lost my father at a young age!. I wonder where you got the idea that his death was "helped" along!? I this is an irrational thought!. People in hospices are there to die in as dignified and as pain free a way as possible!. I wouldsay any medication your dad had been given was only so that he felt no pain!. Where do you get the perception that this was helping to kill him!? Why not speak to older members of your family, they may know exactly what medication your Dad was given!. 20 years ago I reckon it would have been morphine!. There are stages of death before a person actually dies, the breathing gets very rattly and laboured towards the end and the cancer patient can be in tremendous pain if not medicated!. I think you should also perhaps seek some spiritual guidance in this issue!. Someone may be able to give you a clearer understanding of the process!. Having seen people die following cancer, I too have experienced them appearing fine and talkative 3 or even 2 days prior to death but once it comes they can go quiet, mu own uncle spoke right up until the last few minutes before he died!. I guess it's different for each individual!. I hope you find an answer and peace!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
