Yes, as if you do it tight enough, it can restrict the expansion of your rib cage and cause difficulty breathing, or even death!.
There's a reason why there's a 'keep away from children' mark on those boxes!. (The other being asphyxiation!.)
As for there being any 'weight loss', or getting 'slimmer', it works in the same way as a girdle or corset did in the old days, by squishing things into a different form!.
