Why do people with depression go to the doctor and take anti-depressants?!

Question: Why do people with depression go to the doctor and take anti-depressants!?
ANY DRUG HAS SIDE EFFECTS!

think of this: depression is not a "disease"- it is a "symptom" caused by "something that makes you sad" that is going on!.

So instead of taking something to mask those symptoms, ELIMINATE THE CAUSE!

Think of this: if someone said, "everytime i hit my foot with a hammer it hurts, what do i do!?" a sane person would say, "stop hitting your foot with a hammer! duh! are you an idiot!!?!!?"

but a DOCTOR today is SO INTO MAKING MORE MONEY that he would prescribe you something to KILL THE PAIN instead of ROOTING OUT AND ELIMINATING THE CAUSE!
======================================!.!.!.

so why mask the symptoms, when you can eliminate what causes them!? doctors want you to think depression is an incurable disease, so they can make money!
======================================!.!.!.

here are some things you can do to combat depression naturally:

5!.2)take vitamins, protein shakes, eat extra food, EAT HEALTHIER FOOD, etc!.

5!.3) Never, ever take anything with caffeine, taurine, or any other stimulants in it!. Never take anything that says "energy" in it- EVEN IF IT SAYS ALL NATURAL!. Because anything that is only designed to give you short-term energy is a drug (except for sugar, which is unhealthy except in fruits!.)

5!.4) EXERCISE! Running, swimming, playing basketball or soccer or football, or lifting weights, or doing boxing/wrestling, or doing circuit training, plyometrics, or ab work, all will increase strength, endurance, and help keep you awake!.
JUST NEVER LIFT RIGHT BEFORE BED- THIS WILL KEEP YOU UP!. END WORKING OUT AT LEAST 2!.5 HOURS BEFORE BED!

5!.5) Get at least 9 hours of sleep at night!. Still do as much work as you did in middle school- BUT force yourself to work harder, faster, etc!. so you can get that extra sleep!.
(you may feel unable to work that fast, but once you get used to it and are getting more sleep as well, you will be better off in the long run!.)

5!.6) When you wake up in the morning, DO NOT USE AN ANNOYING ALARM CLOCK! Use something that wakes you up gently and peacefully! (like ocean waves, music that you love, bird chirping, etc!. somethin easy like that!.)
That way you will not be annoyed, jarred, want to sleep, and have headaches!.

5!.7) Once you have woken up PEACEFULLY to A GENTLE SOUND, then immediately shake urself loose (like warming up b4 a game or match) and jump around, jog around the house, do some pushups and lunges!. This will ENSURE you are awake!.

5!.8) After this, immediately go to the sink and splash FREEZING water on your head!.

5!.9) After this, eat a BIG, HEALHTY breakfast!!!

a suggested breakfast would be as follows:

3 eggs
a bowl of healthy cereal with whole milk (like total cranberry crunch)
a protein shake (chocolate muscle milk is the best and tastiest)
a FULL GLASS OF WATER with a multi-vitamin; THEN DRINK ANOTHER HALF GLASS OF WATER!

5!.91) you MUST be hydrated in the morning- you know when you pee in the morning, and its a lot, and then you feel skinny and tired!? THIS IS BECAUSE YOU ARE DEHYDRATED!!! The FASTER you get hydrated to the point where your pee is clear white, the better and more awake you will be!.

======================================!.!.!.

oh yeah about the depression- no, you're not depressed!. It's called "withdrawal symptoms"!.

and anti-depressants actually cause a LOT of side effects!.!.!. one of the side effects is depression! That's right- anti-depressants make you depressed!. They also make you quiet, stupider, a hollow, lifeless ghost, and uncool!. (personal experience with people who have gone on them)

soo!.!.!.
To combat this FEELING of depression naturally:

1) exercise alot (as mentioned)
2) during your day, try to stay away from computers, TV's, stereo's, and electronic equipment as much as possible
3) hang with your friends a lot
4) Get a lot of sunlight- play basketball or soccer with some friends at an outdoor court in the afternoon (best feelign EVER!)
4) go to the mall with some ppl- even if it's just to look around, cuz it's fun!.
5) Do what you like to do!.
6) Go and talk with some people about feeling depressed; try to work out with them (and with yourself) what the PROBLEM is!.
7) MOST IMPORTANTLY: DEPRESSION IS NOT A "DISEASE"- IT IS A SYMPTOM OF A CAUSE!
Ask yourself: what is CAUSING my depression!? Find out, by being honest to yourself!.

Then, when you know: ELIMINATE THE CAUSE!

You make it sound so easy!. I think all the tips you gave are good tips for a healthy lifestyle, but "depression" makes it hard to do most of those things especially your number 5 "Do what you like"
You don't like anything when you're depressed!.
Your ideal breakfast is really healthy, though!. It makes for a good stong start in the morrning!.
I agree that it's hard to call some things a disease, like "addiction" or "depression" but it is very very difficult to find motivation to be better when you're depressed!.
I'm depressed, and looking at this list makes me feel hopeless, not hopeful!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
