What are the chances of my child getting Muscular dystrophy?!

Question: What are the chances of my child getting Muscular dystrophy!?
I had an uncle on my father's side who dies of Muscular dystrophy when he was about 20 years old or so!. I did some reading, and found that it was more common in boys, than girls!. I am currently 15 weeks pregnant with a boy!. I have no other siblings on my father's side!. So I was wondering if this is a disease that skips generations, or what!? I'm sure this is a pretty dumb question, but I was just curious!. Thanks!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
According to Wikipedia, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is inherited as an X-linked recessive genetic disorder!.
That means that affected men show symptoms of the disease, and affected women are (usually) carriers without symptoms!. Affected men will (I think) pass the disease on to all their daughters (who will be carriers), but not to their sons!. Affected women (carriers) have (I think) a 50% chance of passing the disease on to both their sons and their daughters!.

This website has a good explanation and diagram of x-linked inheritance!. (Scroll well down the page to get to x-linked inheritance)

Hope this helps!.
Good luck - I hope the amniocentesis shows that your son is free of the disease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
