Hydration and color of urine?!

Question: Hydration and color of urine!?
I know that in general, if your urine is clear or very pale yellow, you're hydrated!. But this doesn't make sense to me!.!.!.!.if on the rare occasion I drink a lot of soda one day- I'm peeing often and my urine is clear!. But soda doesn't hydrate you- it actually dehydrates you!. Same would go for beer, or almost any drink!. So just how much of a hydration indicator is your urine!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Urine Color Measurement
Urinalysis has been shown to be the most valid and reliable method for determining moderate changes in fluid balance!.

description / procedure: The first part of the urine stream is discarded, then a small sample of urine is collected into a clear container!. Measurement may be done immediately, or the specimen can be stored for later analysis!. The sample is usually collected first thing in the morning!. It may also be of interest to collect samples prior to or post exercise, though there may be a time delay for the effect of dehydration to show in the urine color!.

equipment required: Urine specimen containers, ice bucket for storage and ice, color rating chart, gloves, clip boards, recording sheet, pen

interpretation: The sample should be held up in front of a white background, in good light, and the color compared to a color chart!. The lower the number, the better the result!. A urine color rating of 1, 2 or 3 is considered to be well-hydrated (Armstrong, 2000)!. Based on these results, changes in fluid intake can be made!.

precautions:

certain medicines and vitamins may cause the color of the urine to change!. If any of these have been taken, this test is unreliable!.
the colors your see on the screen, or when you print the image out, may appear different to the original chart!. Therefore this chart should only be used as a guide!. If more accurate comparison is required, please go to an original source

Comments: There is a minimal difference in the accuracy of the related measures of urine specific gravity, urine osmolarity, and urine colour !.

Sodas, coffee and beer are all diuretics and can make you pee more!. But they are still considered fluids along with water!. And if consumed in great quantities would result in clear urine to slightly yellow urine indicating good hydration!.

Typically, clear urine signals good hydration and health!. However, if you do not consume many beverages or much water and your urine remains consistently clear, contact a physician because it could be a sign of a kidney or liver disorderWww@Answer-Health@Com

Howdy mate!. As rosies answer is very lengthy and informative I'll keep mine short!. As she mentioned different medicines and stuff can change the colour of your pee!. Generally if you don't take meds or whatever, my understanding is, the clearer it is the better!. However, if I have a big night on the piss and then take 2 or 3 beroccas or hairy lemon tabs (massive B vitamin boost) then my pee goes like fanta!. lol!. Very dark orange!. So yeah it's just how your system processes things!. If you're concerned at all, see your GP!. Otherwise it sounds like you are quite healthy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, if it is really dark you obviously aren't drinking enough!. You have a point with pop and beer actually making you pee more than it hydrates you, but even then fluid is still moving through your body!. You will retain and use the fluid you need!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

soda is 99!.9% water!. Water is what hydrates you!. so if you drink a lot of soda, you are really drinking water!.
