There is no single gene that causes Alzheimer's disease!. Alzheimer's does not have an identified cause, and that has been a challenge for the medical community in treating the disease!.
There are familial forms of the disease that are early onset!. If you have a mutation in the gene that processes the Amyloid Precursor Protein, and everyone on one side of the family develops Alzheimer's disease before the age of 50, then you might want to test for this!.
For the general population, there is a gene called ApoE that can point to the increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the status of this gene only is a risk factor and people with the ApoE4 type of the gene can live past 85 with no clinical manifestations of AD!.
Athena Diagnostics has the patent for this test "AD mark Alzheimer's evaluation" and this can be ordered through your physician from a blood test or two swabs in the mouth!.
