Question: Smoker and general anesthesia!?
So, I'm 18, i've been smoking on and off for three years!.!.!.

the past 3 months i've smoked at least 10 cigarettes a day!.

Now I have surgery this upcoming Thursday, I had a smoke about 10 minutes ago, and i'm reading all this junk now about how smoking can cause complications from the anesthesia and i'm FREAKED OUT

I had my pre-op the other day and my mom was in the room and I said I didn't smoke, but i meet with the anesthesiologist the day of my surgery and i'm going to tell him/her that I do smoke!.!.!.

and for the next two days i'm not going to smoke at all!.!.!. but I heard that can make things worse!.!.!.

AHH i'm stressing out, will I be okay!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
im sure you'll be fine if you just tell the anesthesiologist that you smoke, and if you're really worried ask him or her about the affects on smoking with anesthesia!. im sure they'll be much more expert about it then whatever you are reading!
just remember, they probably deal with this kind of thing every day, and although your worried its probably second nature for them to sort out whatever they have to do, so as long as they KNOW you smoke, they'll take good care of you!. its what they are paid for!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
