Well it depends it could be from anxiety you are working through, hypoglycemia, sleep apnea, insufficient sleep, it could be a chemical imbalance in the brain or it could even be from medications you may be taking!. I know the last time I had the terrors I was trying Walgreens OTC Wal-Zyr (generic Zyrtec)!. I was waking up every 20 - 50 minutes in a tachycardic state of panic where I was literally clawing at the air as I shot up and out of bed!. Horribly unpleasant to say the least!.

From the sources:

A night terror, also known as pavor nocturnus, is a parasomnia disorder characterized by extreme terror and a temporary inability to regain full consciousness!. The subject wakes abruptly from slow-wave sleep, with waking usually accompanied by gasping, moaning, or screaming!. It is often impossible to fully awaken the person, and after the episode the subject normally settles back to sleep without waking!. A night terror can rarely be recalled by the subject!. They typically occur during non-rapid eye movement sleep!.

Night terrors in adults can be treated with medications such as an antidepressant called Tofranil or benzodiazepine drugs such as Klonopin or Valium!. Additionally, the doctor may recommend psychotherapy, which is a method of treating emotional problems!. In psychotherapy, the patient talks with a therapist about their concerns and problems that may be linked to this sleep disturbance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dint think anything causes them, as our brain is in a 'random' state!. It is true that sometimes we can have dreams about what is going on in our lives (like work, school, so on) but most 'just happen' by chance

as if you could really control the dreams you could just go back to a (good) dream if you were disturbedWww@Answer-Health@Com
