Answers:
It needs to be stressed that many antidepressants are medically multipurpose!. They are not here being used as antidepressants any more than the beta blockers are being used to lower blood pressure!.

many work as antidepressants, smooth muscle relaxants, atypical pain killers and migraine prophylactic drugs, Doses used in migraine are generally lower than for depression and they can be very effective in some patients!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been on antidepressants!. Although I was clinically depressed so I needed them anyway, they helped my migraines!.

I had horrible stress migraines a few years ago, to the point where I couldn't function normally because of the pain!. I was originally put on nortriptyline for the migraines, and a few weeks after that was also put on antidepressants for the depression!. After a few months of being relatively migraine free I was weened off of the migraine medication completely instead of being put on a low dose, because the doctor said the antidepressants would help with the migraines!. Which it did!.

The only time I ever had a problem with being on antidepressants was when my dosage was off and it bothered me!. But since you are only taking them for migraines you'll stay on a low dosage, so that wouldn't be a problem for you!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some tricyclic antidepressants are quite commonly used for pain relief; often for migraine and reoccurring headache management!.

Tricyclic antidepressants are not tranquillisers, and are not thought to be addictive!. The most common side-effects are; a dry mouth, constipation and sweating!. Give it a go, you may find you have to be taking them for a few weeks to a month before you notice any effect!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was given Topomax!. They made me shake like mad!. I only took them for about a month and then stopped!. I think anti-depressants are given to people to "shut them up" as apposed to curing them!. When you don't complain (because you are taking a mood altering drug) then they (the doctors) don't have to work so hard!. I would rather try to pinpoint the source of my head aches and work from there!.

I have found that what helps me more then anything is deep tissue massage on my upper back, shoulders and the back of my neck!. It seems to relax the tension and my head aches go away!. If I can get a massage every 2 weeks the head aches don't come back!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Would you have radiotherapy for ingrowing toe nails!? NO!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
