How long does it take to refill a prescription?!

Question: How long does it take to refill a prescription!?
My mom has asked me to help her work out what's going on when she gets her prescriptions refilled, but since I never have prescriptions I'm hoping you can help!.

She takes a slew of different medications daily for her high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, and reflux, which means she's always getting some prescription filled!. How long does it normally take for the physician to approve a refill!? Many times her "0 refills left" prescriptions are refilled with out too much problem, but often there is a two or three day delay before her physician approves the refill!. So, what happens during that time!?

From our view she takes the prescriptions in for the refill, the pharmacy calls her physician to see if it's okay to refill them, the physician gets the message that she needs them refilled, sends that information to her medicaid to pay for them, and then gives the pharmacy the go ahead to refill the prescriptions!. That's what we're told!. Is there any reason this should normally take 2-3 days!? What really has to happen to refill a prescription!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It depends on how long it takes the doctor to call back!. Some doctors are very good about it and will call back on the same day, others will let it go for days (and sometimes longer)!.
The advice above is very good!. If she has no refills left then call the doctor and ask them to call the refill into the pharmacy!. They usually respond better when the patient calls!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

2-3 days is on the long side but it's not unheard of!. To speed up the process, call the doctor and ask them to send the prescription over to the pharmacy!. That'll save you some time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
