Question: Could an person be home while IV antibiotics or need to be in an hospital or what !?

My father-in-law had an infection stemming from one of the heart surgeries he has had!. He spent a week in the hospital while they started giving the IV antibiotics!. When he was out, he had to go through 6 weeks of treatment for the antibiotics!. The IV took an hour and a half to two hours!. And he had to get them every 12 hours!.!.!. so twice daily!.
They gave him the option of doing the IV treatments at home!.!.!. and then decided to have him come into the hospital!. He had to go in for every treatment!. But, they do let people go home with the IV treatments!. They teach you how to do it, and give you a pick line, so you don't have to insert an IV every time!.
