Both you AND your friend are right!. Some drugs are addictive, yes, but some drugs have no addictive potential!. It all depends on what 'drug' you're talking about!.

I'll use shrooms as an example because you mentioned them in your question!. Shrooms have no physical addictive potential what-so-ever!. That means that a person could potentially become psycologically adicted to shrooms, but would have no physical withdrawal issues at all!. Why does the difference between or absense / co-existane of physical and / or psychological addictive potential matter!?

!.!.!.Well, to understand whether a drug is addictive you have to understand what something being considered addictive even means!.

Psychologically a person could potentially become addicted Absolutely anything, whether it is a drug or not!. People often develop obsessive compulsive behaviours which mimic addiction and often it's routines and rituals!. Psychological addiction is all in our mind's!.

Physical addiction occurs, along side psychological addiction, with certain drugs and a certain amount of use!.Apparently cannabis has now been discovered to have very minor physical withdrawal symptoms!. Nicotine can cause quite noticeable and uncomfortable, long lasting, physical withdrawal symptoms, contrary to the belief that quiting cigarettes is simply psychological!. Cocaine, amphetamine and Crack can produce varying physical symptoms!. Heroin and opiates can cause some very horrible withdrawal symptoms!. Benzodiazipines(sp) and alcohol can cause horrible and even dangerous withdrawal symptoms, as can certain steroids!.

Addiction is often two parts psychology and one part physical!.

An addiction with both psychological and physical dependance is very difficult to manage or 'recover' from!.

A person or user's attitude often goes a long way in determining if a person will ever become psychologically addicted, and if so to what degree!. A person who completely resists psycological attatchment to a drug may still, with heavy use, become physically addicted to a drug, but physical addiction, without the presence of a psychological element, can be much more easily over come!.

Your friend may argue that he personally will not or would not become addicted to a drug, but he cannot argue that certain drugs do not have the potential to become physically and / or psychologically addictive!. At the same time, you can argue that drugs *are* addictive, but this is a generalisation which can be argued to be at least partly false!.

***Some drugs are addictive and some people will become addicts!. Not every person who uses any addictive drug will become addicted!. Addiction is a complicated process and concept!.

Depending on your genetic make-up as well as your willpower, some of those drugs are not addictive!.

Cocaine is speed!. If you have ADD(ADHD), it has no effect on you other than taking too much Ritalin (Super slow down day, the kind where you can watch the wings of a humming bird move kind of day) (Uppers are downers and downers are uppers for people with ADD/ADHD)

Heroin has the most potential to be addictive!. But only to a weak willed individual!. It's a tranq!.

Shrooms are the best on the list!. Very little risk of being addictive!. It's a strong party drug!. Take a cap, take the shake and watch the fire talk to you!. (Depending on the batch)!.

Drugs are bad!. They can mess you up pretty good if you abuse them!. But a lot of them are no where near as addictive as people make them out to be!. Don't believe everything the media says!. Research and educate yourself!.

Caffeine has more addiction potential than the three drugs you've listed!. It has a milder effect of Cocaine and in enough quantities can result in the same visions as shrooms (it's not very difficult to extract the right amount of caffeine from coffee beans)!. It is more damaging to your health than the three drugs you've listed (excluding a bad shroom batch, that's almost lethal)!. But you don't see it on the dangerous drugs list!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cocaine is VERY addictive!. You have chemicals in your brain that control your nervous system called dopamine!. When you take cocaine, you fool your brain into thinking it does not have to make its own dopamine!. Therefore when you remove the cocaine from use, your brain will crave it because it is not making its own dopamine!. You are a slave! Later in life, the lack of making your own dopamine(ENDOGENOUS) can cause you do develop diseases of the nervous system such as MS or parkinsons!. Heroin is similar, but it effects endorphins, our "happy" chemicals!. These are the chemicals we experience when we are in love, when we exercise, and when we have received praise!. When the heroin is doing this for us, we do not produce our own endorphins!. It is very painful and difficult to withdraw from these drugs!. Mushrooms and LSD are not addictive, but they can fool your brain into believing you can do things that you physically cannot do, like fly!. This can make for an early death :-(Www@Answer-Health@Com

All you would have to do to find out is visit a PSYCH ward in any hospital!.
