IM Injection Questions?!
Question: IM Injection Questions!?
I just got a flu shot!. So two questions for you medical types; first why is the flu shot an IM instead of SC and secondly, why always the deltoid, why not one of the other muscle groups!?
If your answer is 'because that's where it's supposed to be" or "it's better there", please justify your answer!.
Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Flu shots are given IM because there is a much greater supply of blood vessels for the vaccine to enter!. The SC layer of your skin is simply fatty substances that contain little to no blood vessels in certain areas therefore making it less affective!. Injecting the vaccine into the deltiod(shoulder), or the front of your thigh, the immunogenicity(ability of your body to create an immune response) is increased!. These sites also allow for a less adverse reaction to the injection site!. So be thankful that your arm may be just a little sore, because it could be worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
The deltiod is just a handy, larger muscle to put it in!. You could just as well get it in the thigh or hip, but who wants to drop their pants for a flu vaccine!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
