Help with stopping a nasty habit?!
Question: Help with stopping a nasty habit!?
I have the nasty habit of picking the skin close to my fingernails, any ideas on how to help me stop!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
Have a knowledgeable female friend or family member give you manicures or go to a nail salon!. There are very tasteful manicures for men that clean up your nails and the skin around them, so it won't be there to pick at!. Also, if you spend money on a monthly or bi-monthly manicure, you probably won't want to ruin your nails by picking at them!.
You definitely want to stop this because, not only is it bothering you on some level, but it also creates abrasions around the nails that allow for bacteria to be introduced into the system!. You could end up with a very nasty infection and then you'd be spending WAY more time and money than you would on a manicure!.

You have a variant of a disease called Trichotillomania (involuntary hair pulling)!.
It is a form of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder!.
I've treated this many times!.
A combination of medication and therapy can control it!.
Talk to your primary care physician about it!. He/she may refer you to a psychologist for therapy and prescribe a medication like Paxil or Lexapro!. These meds are FDA approved to suppress the compulsive picking!.
With counseling and medication you can be cured!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
