Why is a bone marrow donor test so painful?!

Question: Why is a bone marrow donor test so painful!?
I'm only a teen, not really thinking about it!. I was just wondering, why is it so painful!? What does it involve, exactly!? I heard that it's one of the most painful thing a person can experience, why so!?
Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ok, the test to be a donor is nothing more than a blood test!.

Donating marrow is done under general anesthesia, so the donor actually wont feel anything!. They will be sore after, but they wont be awake to feel the pain you are talking about!.

HOWEVER, bone marrow biopsies (this is the test they use to test the patients marrow for disease) is done awake!. They wont do it under anesthesia because it is such a short proceedure!. It HURTS!. I can feel it pulling from the tip of my toe all the way up my leg!. They take it from the hip bone with large needles!.

It hurts because it is tissue!. I mean, I know its liquid, but its tissue!. Pulling the marrow out is kind of doing the same thing as cutting off a peice of skin!. That is the best way I know to explain it in layman's terms!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They shoot this thing into your hip or back bone and collect a marrow sample!. Its painful because they're shoving something all the way into your bone!. OuchWww@Answer-Health@Com
