I think I have a tic..?!

Question: I think I have a tic!.!.!?
I just saw an ad about Tourette Syndrome and the boy in it was talking about tics!. He said that he makes high pitched involuntary noises, and I do the same thing!.
I used to do it when I was little, and I started it again a few months ago, but I don't know why!. I always just thought I was weird!
But I've never done anything else strange like that (that I can recall) so I'm confused!.
Can anyone tell me what causes it!? I'm sure I would know if I had Tourettes!. And is there a way I can stop it!? My boyfriend just started noticing it and it's really embarrassing!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Not everyone that has tics has Tourette's!. Sometimes people just have nervous tics, and there are other tic disorders as well!.

Tourette's specifically means that you have one or more physical tic (making faces, rolling eyes, stretching muscles are common ones) and one or more vocal tic (throat clearing, noises, sniffing, hiccuping, repeating words)!. These start in childhood, and can change over time!. They are controllable for short periods of time, but if you don't do them, it's like having to sneeze and not being able to: very uncomfortable!. It also almost always runs in families, so if you have Tourette's, one of your parents does, too!. Since you've never noticed other tics, there's a good chance it's just a nervous habit, not the actual disorder!.

There's no way to stop it, really!. There are meds for Tourette's but they have awful side effects and are only prescribed for really bad cases!. I used to take them, and stopped because the meds were worse than the tics!. You can think about it and control it for short periods of time, but it only increases anxiety over it and makes it worse in the long run!. The best thing you can do is to stay relaxed and calm as much as possible, and learn to be okay with the noises!. Doctors can't really help, unless you have severe tics or problems with associated disorders (depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If I was you, I would go see a doctor!. You can never be too sure what you have until you go see a physician!. And hopeufully you will have your answers!. Good Luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
