Question: What can you do about shallowness of breath caused by the flu/viral infections!?
basically finding it extremely hard to breathe!. similar to asthma with that horrible pressing feeling on the chest!. i have hay-fever and i get it for 2-3 days in the summer when there's high pollen levels but not at this time of year!. i have a very bad cold/flu/i don't really know with a very painful dry cough for the last few days!.

I agree with Kristin (above) *but* not on the Sudafed thing! Do NOT take Sudafed as the Epinepharine in it can give you BAD 'racy' dreams and a Really Weird Feeling all together, just what you don't need right now!.

Drink water!.
Sit up more when you sleep (pillows prop yourself up)!.
Don't get too warm when you sleep!.
Humidifier on at night!.
Standing in a hot shower (in the steam) might help relieve the tight chest!.
Eucalyptus oil , drop it onto your pillow!.
Vapo rub helps, too!.
Salty water nose sprays (do NOT take any nose sprays with actual medicinal properties in them as you will become hooked on them, they thin your nasal mucosa and you will feel blocked up when you do not use them!.) Hence the salty water (saline) drops or spray are the best, saline mimics normal mucosa best!.
Take paracetamol and or ibuprofen as stated on the box you buy it in!.
Take vitamin C preparations, up to 10!.000 mg a day is ok (10 gram) for a short while!.

Steroids are BAD to take if they are not prescribed for you, take ventolin instead, this opens lung sacs (broncheal alveoli)!. don't take ventolin if it is not prescribed for you specifically however!

Steroids don't open lung sacs, it just stops infection, which you do not have so stay away from it! Steroids will wear away the lining of your lungs if you use it unprescribed and you will be worse off pretty soon!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can buy OTC {over the counter} medications to relieve congestion like Sudafed PE!. Also, putting a humidifier in the room helps to relieve nasal congestion and keep your nose from having that horrible dry cracking feeling!. Drink lots of fluids, the more fluids you drink it will help to keep the mucous from getting thicker and will help you cough it up easier and keep it from going into your chest!. Vicks Vapo Rub also helps to relieve that yucky feeling and has a calming effect which might help you breathe easier and get some rest!

Hope you feel better soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Find a local instructor in Chi Gung and/or Tai Chi!.

According to my instructor, these practices will (over time) improve breathing efficiency and capacity by making use of more areas of lung space!. These exercises also raise T-cell levels and improve immune function!.

Also, make sure that you are taking enough vitamin C, in doses spread throughout the day!. Find out at what level you reach bowl tolerance, then, slightly, reduce the amount you take daily!.

Have you tried steeping peppermint and/or eucalyptus leaves in hot water and breathing the vapors!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
