Speech impediments are generally caused by a misfire or slow firing of speech sensory neurons!. Somewhere from one dendrite to another, the neuron isn't doing it's job right!. It's either being fired from one dendrite and not making it to the other, or going to the wrong dendrite, or making an incomplete 'journey'!.
A recovery from a broken jaw could cause a temporary speech impediment!. The patient with the broken jaw could have a hard time getting used to the new placement of their jaw!.
